Building a Better Gilroy Together
Building a Better Gilroy Together
Meet Joseph Garcia
Gilroy isn’t just where I live—District 5 is my home. I’m the proud father of five grown children. From a West Point graduate and a San Jose State civil engineer, to two Mustang wrestling champions competing at Oklahoma State (Kaiulani, a two-time World Team member and national champion) and West Virginia (Kaleo), to my son Kameha, who built a successful career in business and insurance and is actively working on this campaign with me—my kids have dedicated themselves to excellence. I'm running to ensure every family in Gilroy has a safe, strong community to build their future.
For over two decades, I’ve worked as a Railroader and Locomotive Engineer, operating heavy equipment where safety, federal compliance, and strict regulations are required every single shift. My job demands absolute accountability—there is no room for error. I will bring that exact same practical work ethic, real-world experience, and dedication to City Hall to oversee city spending, development projects, and public services for District 5.
“District 5 is my home, and it deserves a representative that actually listens and has a voice. I don’t answer to political insiders or special interests - I answer to the families and working people of Gilroy.”
What We Can Achieve Together:
Safe, well-maintained streets and parks
Fair housing policies that keep families rooted in Gilroy
Fiscal responsibility and audited city spending
Open doors and real public hearings before major projects get approved. (e.g., Data Center Project)
My Priorities For District 5
Full Transparency & Financial Audits:
Call for an independent fiscal audit of City spending - including a full review of how police and public safety funds are allocated - to ensure every tax dollar is spent efficiently and ethically. Demand clear accountability for high-budget departments so money goes directly toward neighborhood safety, street repairs, and community services.
Protecting Renters & Housing:
Cap unfair rent hikes to protect long-time residents and seniors on fixed incomes. Support sensible affordable housing developments that fit neighborhood character without squeezing out working families.
Supporting Our Local Gilroy Businesses:
Cut bureaucratic red tape so local shop owners, restaurants, and small businesses can thrive. Direct city economic development efforts toward downtown and District 5 merchants, keeping our sales tax dollars right here in Gilroy.
Accountability For Local Development:
Investigate how the massive Data Center project was pushed through without robust community notice or citizen input.
Require full transparency on zoning and environmental impacts so corporate interests never take priority over District 5 residents again!
